China Southern Airlines Co., one of the nation’s top three state carriers, is exploring a joint venture with British Airways for flights between the Asian country and the U.K., according to the company’s global sales director.



Asia’s biggest carrier by fleet size is discussing with IAG SA’s BA on how to extend cooperation beyond the existing basic code-share agreement announced in December, Senior Vice-President Luo Laijin said in an interview Friday at London’s Heathrow Airport. The two are discussing special pro-rate agreements, flight connections from the U.K.’s capital to cities including Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as to some African cities.

Lutar alltsa at Oneworld, aven om det verkar vara lite osannolikt att Cathay skulle rosta ja.
 
Jag tycker det är spännande nyheter.



Sedan är ett problem att CAN (CZs hub) inte har direkt mycket OW trafik från vår del av världen. Finnair ett par flyg i veckan under sommaren. Qatar ett om dagen. Sedan 2 dagliga CX-flyg från HKG, och lite blandat från CMB, KUL, IKT och HND.



Men låt oss säga att de byter till OW och Finnair är smarta nog att ha två dagliga till CAN så öppnar det för bra förbindelser både på Kina och Australien.

China Southern is also sitting on a huge cash pile after a 30-billion-yuan (US$4.3 billion) injection in July by Guangdong provincial government

and the municipal governments of Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The move is part of Beijing’s drive to diversify share ownership of its state carriers.



The carrier has promised in return to launch more routes from Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the two economic dynamos in southern China.

Indeed, the twin cities are locked in a race to open more intercontinental routes while less local passengers use the neighboring hub of Hong Kong.
